Meteora
The Greek word means “suspend in the air.” Meteora, located a few kilometers outside of the town of Kalambaka, is the site of a monastic community dating back to the 9 century C.E. Today there are six active monasteries nestled in the rock formations. The monks are dedicated to a life of prayer and work.
